Help Lead Desk: Joseph Uygur - Olmec Skip to main content

Meet this month’s Employee Spotlight – Joseph Uygur, one of Olmec’s Helpdesk Lead.

What is your name and current position?

Joseph Uygur, Helpdesk Lead

How long have you been employed at Olmec?

I have been working at Olmec for about 13 years.

What office are you based out of?

I work out of our New Jersey office.

Why did you join Olmec?

I was just out of tech school and this was my first job. I liked the people in the company, so I stuck around. Besides, who wants to go on another job interview? Not me.

What is the most interesting or favorite part of your job?

Firewalls. If you’re asking me to bore you to death, a firewall is like a bouncer for your network. It lets the cool stuff in and keeps out the bad suff. I like dealing with them because they are very black and white, either stuff works, or it doesn’t.

What are some cool projects you’ve seen our clients do with Olmec’s services/products?

Mass deployed wireless and Vmware virtualization. To explain, Mass deployed wireless is like when you go to Giants Stadium and they got WiFi everywhere [be]cause they installed a bunch of WiFi transmitters. It’s cools [be]cause its everywhere like amoebas. Vmware virtualization is a way of taking a bunch of servers and consolidating them into a single more powerful server so you don’t have to spend as much money on hardware.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The people I work with are nice.

When you think of Olmec’s culture, what 3 words come to mind?

Coffee, coffee#2, and tickets. But seriously, I can’t remember that last [company] party… I guess that means it was good, right? Benefits and rewards – well, if you do a really good job, then you get rewarded with more work – so you never really can be bored.

What are your hobbies outside of Olmec?

Home improvement, buying tools and going to the Depot (it’s my Disney).

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.

Besides not having a Facebook account, I’m a jack of all trades, master of none. No interesting talents, but I can rat out some talents Olmec employees… James is good at woodworking projects, and Jordan is an International Laser Tag Champion – like with a medal; and everything.

Check back next month for our monthly “Olmec Employee Spotlight” series.
